An Open Letter to my Mother-in-Law

(In the space of two short weeks, we’ve celebrated my husband’s birthday, our 12th anniversary, and Mother’s Day. This felt right today, to honor my mother-in-law the way she honors us. Don’t worry, I love my mom too – you’ll learn more about her tomorrow.) Dear Kris, Thirty-nine years you’ve had this boy (man), and for the last twelve, you’ve ever so graciously relinquished him to me. You embraced me into your family with all the attending chaos – the feet...

Part One: The First Goodbye

*In case I haven’t made it clear, this is primarily a recounting of events that took place in 2005-2006. This is not happening right now.* We have a death to-do list. I mean, who doesn’t, right? Husband’s initial interment request was that I fly his ashes in a Blackhawk over the Dallas Cowboys stadium and scatter them at halftime during the annual Cowboys-Redskins grudge match football game. No. Not going to happen. Gross on so many levels. In addition, illegal?...

Here Goes . . . The prologue

I’m leaping off a cliff here. When I press publish on this, I can’t go back. And I don’t want to, but that doesn’t erase how scary it is to bare my soul in a public space, to use it for His glory, not mine, desperate to be upside down, to take away my desire to be made much of. I want to tell you our story. What I really want to tell you about is grief, grace, and hope....

Love of a Good Man ….

I thought about this all day on Valentine’s Day this year. Started to write about it even … but we were elbows deep in germs right about then and I couldn’t muster the energy to finish it. (And by the way, I L.O.V.E. starting traditions. It provides consistency in a life defined by the absence of it …. So, vilify me, if you will, but I like Valentine’s Day. And Valentine cupcakes. Have you noticed it’s a great day to...

Seven Years

Seven years. We’ve been married seven years today. If you’re counting, and clearly, I am,  we’ve occupied the same physical location for 3.5 of those years. 3 moves. 4 deployments. 4 pregnancies. 2 sweet babes here, 2 sweet babes in heaven. 3.5 years together. 3.5 years apart. A lot of phone calls. The Lord teaches me by the numbers to breathe gratitude for every second. I didn’t always know this … it is a hard lesson.  My sweet maternal grandparents...

Stencils!

My Husband bought me stenciling tools for Love Day. Well done my dear. So now I am stenciling everything in sight, because, well, why not. Pics are of a newly embellished tote bag I made – just one of the many victims. Husband did good. I am available for custom orders:) ~M....

The beginning of the beginning…

We celebrated our anniversary this weekend. Five years (a jam packed five years!). Our actual anniversary is April 30th, but generally speaking, I am about a week behind in my life so this is actually on schedule. So, in honor of this very special day, and because I did promise a little background, the following is a (sort of) brief synopsis of the beginning of the beginning. April 27th, 1978, P. is born . . . just kidding. Not going...
